Prada
Prada's signature triangle plaque and jacquard lining are heavily faked. The good news: counterfeiters consistently get a few specific details wrong. Check the triangle, the text, and the lining together — and authenticate professionally for high-value bags.
The Triangle Plaque
The enamel/metal triangle is Prada's most recognizable marker — and the most revealing. It should be an inverted (point-down) triangle, perfectly centered, flat, and smooth.
- The triangle points DOWN (inverted). An upright triangle is a classic fake tell.
- The plaque is flat and smooth — no bubbling, indentations, or uneven surface.
- It sits perfectly centered and proportioned on the leather, with a finish that matches the bag's other hardware.
- Metal triangles are heavy, with sharp, consistent engraving.
Orientation & shape
✓ AUTHENTIC
Inverted triangle, crisp edges, centered, flush to the leather.
✗ COUNTERFEIT
Upright or off-center triangle; corners with double-stitching (a fake tell).
Material
✓ AUTHENTIC
Enamel-coated metal or quality plaque, weighty and smooth.
✗ COUNTERFEIT
Plastic or faux-leather tag standing in for the ceramic/metal plaque.
Logo Text: "PRADA · MILANO · DAL 1913"
- The plaque reads PRADA, MILANO, DAL 1913 — verify the exact wording and spacing.
- Authentic plaques typically have a small notch at the bottom of the letter "R" in PRADA.
- Lettering is evenly engraved and sharp, with consistent depth.
- Missing or malformed notch on the "R".
- Wrong text, misspellings, or uneven letter spacing.
- Shallow, fuzzy, or inconsistent engraving.
Interior Lining
Genuine Prada bags are lined with Nappa leather or embossed Saffiano, or the signature jacquard nylon — and the jacquard hides a detail fakes rarely copy.
Jacquard lining
✓ AUTHENTIC
The woven "PRADA" name alternates — every other line appears upside down across the fabric.
✗ COUNTERFEIT
Every "PRADA" reads straight and identical, with no alternating/inverted lines.
Lining material
✓ AUTHENTIC
Nappa leather or quality embossed jacquard nylon, cleanly finished.
✗ COUNTERFEIT
Thin, cheap, or glued lining; loose threads; mismatched seams inside.
The alternating-name detail
In authentic jacquard linings the PRADA name is woven so every other line is upside down. This subtle weave is one of the hardest details for counterfeiters to replicate — make it part of every check.
Hardware, Stitching & Where to Buy
- Hardware is heavy and well-finished, with engraving that matches the triangle plaque tone.
- Stitching is even and tight with no loose threads or glue.
- Authenticity/quality cards and dust bag are present (but not proof on their own).
Where to buy safely
Buy from Prada directly, authorized department-store concessions, or authenticating resellers (The RealReal, Rebag, Fashionphile). Avoid listings with stock photos, deep discounts, or pressure to pay fast via irreversible methods.
Get Professional Authentication
Visual checks catch obvious fakes, but professional authentication is the only way to be certain — especially for high-value purchases.
